Biography

Jeff Burke is a Patent Attorney at Dunlap Bennet & Ludwig. He has been working with patent applications since 2007, when he started as a junior patent examiner at the USPTO.  Jeff became a Primary Patent Examiner in 2012, where he examined computer and software related inventions. During his time as a Primary Patent Examiner Jeff served on several details that enhanced his knowledge of office practices, including a detail to the Quality Assurance Shop, and a detail as a trainer of new Patent Examiners. In 2020, Jeff was promoted to Supervisory Patent Examiner in Technology Center 3600, where... he oversaw examination of vehicle controls and robotics controls examiners. In addition to his supervisory duties, he also served as a point-of-contact for examiners dealing with 35 U.S.C. 101 issues. 

Jeff has bachelor’s degrees in both Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston, and in addition, has a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida.

  • Jeff has experience in a wide variety of technology areas both from his time at the USPTO and in Private practice. Specifically, Jeff has experience in technology area such as:  
    • Vehicle Controls for any non-autonomous, or autonomous conveyance, including: automobiles, airplanes, drones, robots, agricultural vehicles, motorcycles, etc.  
    • Control components include any mechanical, electro-mechanical, or electrical control system and corresponding components.  
    • Robotics Controls for Robotic systems include any electro-mechanical system that can sense and exercise control over itself or its environment, including drone systems, surgical robotics, UAV, UGV, etc.  
    • Navigational technologies, including: LIDAR, RADAR, GPS, etc.  
    • Business Methods including software, logistics, targeted advertising, Electronic Health Records, Fintech, blockchain, service sharing applications, etc.  
    • Computer Software including: database and file design, search indexing, memory management, Artificial Intelligence, Simulation and Modeling, Software Development and Version management, Data storage, Operating Systems, Time series Data Processing, OLAP/OLTP data analysis, etc.  
    • Mechanical including: static structures, firearms, packaging, clothing, etc.

Outside of Work

Outside of work Jeff is an avid golfer (sporting a single digit handicap), and enjoys spending time with his family, and dogs. In the fall, Jeff enjoys college football on Saturdays, and loves to visit different college football stadiums, although he prefers his University of Florida Gators.
