OVERVIEW

Driving business deals

Intellectual property can fuel business deals — or it can thwart them if rights are neglected or mismanaged. The value of innovations can grow through well-considered licensing agreements. But one wrong step can diminish the value of technology and, with it, an entire transaction.

The technology transactions and licensing team at Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig understands these risks. That’s why we put our deep understanding of technology and legal principles behind our work for our clients, helping them maximize the value of their intellectual property. Our objective is to give our clients a competitive advantage in an increasingly crowded market.

Our experience with technology transactions and licensing

Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig’s technology transactions and licensing team represents clients across a variety of fields and disciplines, including universities, hardware companies, and emerging tech companies. For example, our law firm has:

  • Guided software companies in licensing their SaaS products while maintaining both registered code copyright protection and trade secrets rights in source code
  • Advised and represented a biotechnology company on licensing technology and patents from universities and government entities, negotiating contracts and securing patents and trademarks
  • Represented a large national university in protecting and securing intellectual property rights for electronic medical records system for a private sale of the multi-hospital system to a private company
  • Represented federal government entities in intellectual property registrations and licensing matters
  • Represented large national patent portfolio holders in licensing technology to third-party infringers
  • Defended defense articles manufacturers in licensing disputes
  • Represented and advised technology clients on overseas manufacturing agreements and U.S. distribution agreements

Our intellectual property team consists of technologically savvy lawyers with knowledge of Oracle APEX, Node.js and HTML, Java, and Agular, among other software systems. Our lawyers have also earned advanced degrees in biotech and hold their own patents in fields as diverse as nanoparticle technology and medical devices. Our licensing and transactional lawyers work closely with our patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secrets lawyers, as well as with our litigation team, to provide counsel and guidance throughout deals and to handle any disputes that arise.
